Gaultheria procumbens is a popular evergreen shrub which holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit. In the summer months the plant is decorated with dainty, pendulous white/pink flowers. The flowers are followed by an abundance of red berries from mid-summer through into late autumn and winter. Leathery and aromatic, dark green leaves take on reddish and metallic tints in autumn and winter. A great low-growing, ground cover plant which also makes an excellent container plant. Gaultheria can be enjoyed in pots in a cool room indoors over the festive season. Plants thrive in partial or full shade and prefer acidic soil. Fully hardy down to -10C. Height 15-20cm, spread to 100cm.
